  On Saturday, May 21st, 2016, the Nevada Public Safety Department {NPSD} held several events. The first event was a Bike Sale. There were seventy (70) bikes at the start of the day, forty-eight (48) were sold, and the remainders were turned over to Dick Atwell. Mr. Atwell has been involved with Working Bikes, a nonprofit based in Chicago that ships used bikes to people in need throughout Africa and Latin America.

 As the bike sale was in progress, a Bike Rodeo was taking place. During the Bike Rodeo, Skunk River Cycles, from Ames, was present doing minor repairs on bikes free of charge. The Nevada Jaycees were providing free registration for bikes. Twenty-five [25] bikes were registered.

 The NPSD was giving away bike helmets to children that did not have one. Kelly Kemp, for Farmers Insurance, was taking pictures for the Milk Program. The Milk Program is an Identity Program for Children.

 In the afternoon was the Pet Licensing Project. The City of Nevada enacted a Pet Licensing requirement for all pet owners. Registration fees have been waived if pets are registered before July 1st of this year. There were seventy-six [76] pets registered this day, for a total of one-hundred twenty {120} to date.

 Saturday’s event was on a very pleasant and sunny day has yield one success story already. One pet registered on Saturday was found wandering the following day. Within a short period the pet and owner were reunited.

 The Nevada Public Safety Department would like to thank the community for a great event. Additionally, the event was largely successful with the assistance and participation of Skunk River Cycles, Nevada Jaycees, Nevada Fire Department, Story County Sheriff’s Office, Story County Medical Center Ambulance Service, and Farmers Insurance.
